Tuv Ha'Aretz: Community-Supported Agriculture

Tuv Ha'Aretz: Hazon's Community-Supported Agriculture Project (CSA) program brings the FRESHEST organic vegetables to right to your neighborhood!
Tuv Ha'aretz means both "good for the land" and "the best of the land." Ultimately, it also means the best for you and your family. By joining as a Tuv Ha'aretz member at the JCC, you'll know where your food is coming from. You'll enjoy:

  • a variety of fresh, organic vegetables at competitive prices from Home Sweet Farm.
  • weekly produce delivery here at the JCC in time for Shabbat!
  • supporting local farms, a healthy environment, and strong community
  • connecting in new ways to Jewish values and tradition
  • a weekly newsletter called Tuv Ha'Shavua with recipes, news from the farm, divrei Torah and more!
farm trips and inspiring education classes

How did Tuv Ha’Aretz make its way to Houston?

Rabbi Eve Ben-Ora first heard about Tuv Ha’aretz at the 2005 Arava Institute Hazon Israel Ride. She thought Tuv Ha'Aretz might “fill a gap in the community between connection to Judaism and connection to land.”  Rabbi Eve left JCC Houston at the end of the 2006 season for a new position in San Francisco. Jennifer Handy, Arts and Culture Program Coordinator and a Tuv Ha'aretz member, now coordinates Tuv Ha'Aretz and is also a member.

As one of the first CSAs in the Houston area, Tuv Ha’Aretz is also helping to spearhead the local and organic food movement in the broader community. The JCC of Houston partners with Home Sweet Farm, which provides Tuv Ha’Aretz members with delicious, seasonal, organic vegetables. Tuv Ha'Aretz currently has 40 active communities in the US and Canada, and will be expanding to more sites in North America in 2010.
